Brands Dr. Parks Loves: Avene

Some of the most common (and most irritating) skincare concerns include redness, rosacea, psoriasis, dry skin, itchy skin, etc. It can be hard to find skincare brands and products that don’t irritate your skin and provide some sort of benefit to your skincare routine. Many common skincare ingredients are created for non-sensitive skin types, which can make for a difficult time in picking your go-to products. Not so fast- relief may be found in Avène.

Avène has over 275 years of experience in skincare as a brand, and their focus has always been on sensitive skin. Every one of their products has something in common- their Avène Thermal Spring Water. This water is completely pure and has soothing and calming properties. The water is extracted to guarantee that it won’t be polluted by anything from the enviroment and that it’s softer and more pure than competitors. It can be used at any time, but is especially helpful after cleansing, after shaving, after being in the sun, after suffering a burn, during travel, or even to heal diaper rash for your little ones. This water has gone through over 150 clinical studies and has had 50 publications in medical journals, confirming its benefits for sensitive skin.

Their skincare is rooted in dermatological and scientific principles. Every formula goes through a rigorous series of tests to ensure safety, effectiveness, and tolerance. Dermatologists are involved at every step of the formulation process, and each ingredient is audited by scientists for optimal tolerance by even the most sensitive skin types. When you have dry, sensitive skin or are suffering from a skin condition like eczema, you’ll want to use only the most gentle, soothing ingredients on your skin. All of Avene’s products, in addition to their thermal spring water, contain ingredients like glycerin, squalane, Vitamin E, ceramides, and more. As a dermatologist, it’s very important to recommend products with ingredients that I trust, which is why I love Avène for patients and customers that have extra sensitive skin. Here are some of our favorite Avène products:

Avène Thermal Spring Water: Like mentioned before, Thermal Spring Water is at the heart of Avène’s skincare products. It’s extremely gentle, calming, hydrating, and soothing for the skin. It also helps to soothe inflammation, redness, and itching and can helo to even out skin tone.

Avène Skin Recovery Cream: The Skin Recovery Cream is a facial moisturizer that has glycerin and squalane, which are known to be hydrating and soothing for the skin. It smoothes, softens, nourishes, and calms irritation on the skin. It also contains 1% parcerine, which calms irritation and redness while restoring the moisture barrier on the skin.

Avène XeraCalm A.D. Lipid Replenishing Cleansing Oil: If you’re looking for a lightweight, gentle cleanser that will remove dirt, oil, and makeup without making your skin overly dry and stripping it of nutrients, this cleansing oil is for you. It has Vitamin E, glycerin, evening primrose oil, and thermal spring water to soothe itchy, dry skin and seal in moisture to your skin barrier.

Avène Retrinal Eyes: The area around our eyes is some of the most delicate of all our skin, but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored. This eye treatment contains retinaldehyde, a type of retinoid that helps to decrease puffiness and fade wrinkles and fine lines. It also nourishes the skin with hyaluronic acid and glycerin.

Avène Cleansing Foam: If your skin is in need of some more deep-cleansing, this cleansing foam is perfect, as it breaks down oil and makeup to purify the skin and banish impurities without overdrying the skin. It has lactic acid, a gentle chemical exfoliator for the skin, along with thermal spring water to soothe and nourish the skin.

Avène Cleanance Mask: This 3 in 1 clay mask deep cleans the skin and absorbs impurities before turning into a gentle scrub that helps to exfoliate and renew the skin. It contains zinc gluconate and thermal spring water to soothe the skin and monolaurin to regulate the production of oil. It contains glycolic and salicylic acids to fight acne and kaolin clay to absorb oil.

Avène Hydrance Rich Hydrating Cream: This creamy moisturizer provides long-lasting hydration that locks in moisture with shea butter, glycerin, and patented lipomucine and meioboserine to deeply nourish the skin and minimize fine lines and dehydration of the skin.

Avène has tons of amazing products that are great for your skin. All skin types can benefit from this brand, but if your skin is especially irritable, I strongly recommend trying out Avène products to heal your skin.
