Skincare Routine in Your 50s

If there were ever a time you might think “I need to really take care of my skin because I’m really starting to notice signs of aging,” it would likely be in your 50s. Now, if you’ve actively had a preventative skincare routine for a while, you may not be seeing serious signs of aging. If you haven’t, that’s okay! Luckily, when it comes to skincare, it can be implemented into your life at any point and can always make a difference. In your 50s, your focus for your skin might be more on hydration, sun protection and hiding or reversing signs of aging. Your skin also might look and feel more mature and be a bit more sensitive than before. One of the most important things to remember for your skincare routine in your 50s is to be consistent if you want to see changes and focus on the overall health of your skin and body.

Cleanser: One of the first things you’ll want in your skincare routine is a good cleanser with active ingredients to not only cleanse your skin of dead skin and dirt, but to also treat your concerns. For example, the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser uses glycolic acid and sorbitol to deep clean the skin and increase the rate of cell turnover but is also gentle enough for everyday use and will keep the skin soft and hydrated.

Treatment/Serum: As your skin begins to age and its essential processes slow down, it’s important to use some sort of treatment that helps to ramp these processes back up again in order to keep the skin looking and feeling youthful and healthy. It doesn’t get much better than SkinMedica’s TNS Advanced+ Serum, created with the most advanced technology in growth factors. These growth factors support rapid and comprehensive skin rejuvenation and help to visibly improve wrinkles and fine lines. In addition to growth factors, this serum uses a blend of botanicals, marine extracts and peptides to keep skin looking its best.

Moisturizer: If your skin is on the dry side, you might want to use a moisturizing serum in addition to a night cream to your nightly routine. If it’s not dry, a hydrating serum or moisturizer is perfect for your morning routine. The Allies of Skin Triple Hyaluronic Antioxidant Hydration Serum is a lightweight and effective way to add extra hydration to your skin or simply keep it soft and smooth on its own. It is supercharged with 3 forms of hyaluronic acid: low molecular weight, high molecular weight and botanical polysaccharide. It also vital antioxidants to strengthen, hydrate and brighten skin. You’ll see overall skin appearance and elasticity improve in addition to seriously hydrated skin that glows.

Night Cream: As our skin ages, it’s important to maintain hydration to avoid flakes and cracking of the skin, both of which can contribute to signs of aging. For women, you might notice a change in your skin especially around the time of menopause, which often occurs in your 50s. Emepelle’s Night Cream is specifically formulated to harness the skin’s nighttime repair processes in women going through menopause. It contains retinol, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to provide anti-aging benefits while helping to restore the natural functions of estrogen-deficient skin to leave it smooth and hydrated.

Eye Cream: One of the first areas you might see aging is around your eyes. That’s why it’s important that we take care of this extra-delicate area with an eye cream like Jan Marini’s Age Intervention Eye Cream. It contains a powerhouse of ingredients including retinol, Vitamin E, peptides, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, green tea and shea butter to smooth, hydrate and refine the appearance of the eye area. Say goodbye to crow’s feet with this eye cream!

Sunscreen: No matter your age, you should be wearing sunscreen every single day. Protecting your skin from the sun helps to avoid future aging of the skin by avoiding harsh rays and free radicals. For your skin on your face, you’ll want an especially high SPF sunscreen, particularly as we begin to age. The iS Clinical Eclipse SPF 50+ is a great option to protect your skin from the sun, rich with antioxidants and Vitamin E to keep your skin looking its best while also shielding you from the sun. It’s non-greasy, ultra-sheer and lightweight.

Your 50s can be an interesting time full of changes, but your skin doesn’t have to change. Be sure to maintain a consistent skincare routine and take care of your overall health and you can look and feel your best at any age!
