Skincare Routine in Your 70s

When we say this now, it still holds true: you are never too old to take care of your skin. You may be thinking, “what’s the point of skincare now, in my 70s?” The point is that no matter your age, you can make a difference in your skin. Not only that, taking care of your skin is part of taking care of your overall health, which is especially important at this age. So, what should a skincare routine for someone in their 70s focus on? As you age, your skin not only matures by showing signs of aging such as wrinkles, it requires extra help restoring those natural skin processes, like maintaining moisture. You’ll also likely want products that are soothing for the skin, and obviously some that help with signs of aging. To finish off our skincare across the decades blog series, let’s dive into what a potential skincare routine for someone in their 70s might look like.

Cleanser: We know, we sound like a broken record, but cleanser truly is one of the most important parts of your skincare routine, especially as you age. In fact, cleansing the wrong way or with the wrong product can actually contribute to physically aging your skin, which is why it’s so important to use a cleanser that will not only deep-clean your skin of dirt and impurities, but also soothe and hydrate the skin. DCL’s Ultra Comfort Cleanser is formulated for sensitive skin with glycerin and botanical extracts to clear out dirt from your pores without stripping the skin of its natural oils.

Treatment/Serum: When facing something like aging, you’ll want a serum that’s strong without being hard on the skin. That being said, in your 70s, you’ll probably want a serum that addresses physical signs of aging with an ingredient like retinol, but not in its strongest form to avoid irritating your delicate skin. A great option is the Biopelle Retriderm Serum Plus, with a low strength .75% retinol to help you attain smoother skin and fight wrinkles without being irritating.

Night Cream: As you age, you’ll want a moisturizer that is extra-hydrating in order to help your skin stay smooth, soft and hydrated. Night cream tends to be a bit thicker and creamier than a typical moisturizer, which is necessary for aging skin that may be dehydrated or sensitive. It’s a bonus if your night cream also works to revitalize your skin or fight signs of aging at the same time, like Revision Skincare’s Restorative Night Cream. It’s made with antioxidants, peptides and Vitamins A & C to brighten and smooth your skin while delivering powerful hydration.

Eye Cream: Like we’ve said before, your eyes can be one of the first and most prominent areas to show signs of aging, and giving them some TLC during your skincare routine is essential. In your 70s, you’re probably wanting to decrease signs of aging that you already have in this area, like fine lines or crow’s feet, as well as keeping them hydrated. Avene’s Retrinal Eyes is a 3-in-1 eye cream that simultaneously minimizes fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. It has hyaluronic acid, retinaldehyde, collactin and more to provide your eyes with the love they need.

Sunscreen: Yep, sunscreen is just as important in your 70s, if not more. More than ever, you’ll want a high SPF in your sunscreen that’s gentle enough for everyday use to avoid further aging from sun damage. It’s also important to wear sunscreen at this age to protect yourself against potential health issues, and sunscreen is the easiest and most effective way to do it. Obagi’s Sun Shield Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is sheer, fragrance-free, PABA-free and allergy tested with a matte finish for effective protection that can be worn all day.

At the end of the day, no age is the wrong age to have a skincare routine. If you have any additional questions, please reach out.
