Skincare Routine in Your 40s

iS Clinical Youth Eye Complex, Elta MD UV Daily, DCL G20 Radiance Peel

As you enter your 40s, you might start to notice your skin changing more. For your skin, aging can bring changes in the processes of your body. For example, your body produces less and less collagen as you grow older, leaving your skin looking less plump and bouncy than when you were younger. You might also start to notice a few wrinkles on your forehead, around your smile, in between your eyebrows, etc. While unfortunately there’s no way to slow the aging process, your 40s is a great time to ramp up your skincare routine to slow the appearance of aging on your skin. Below, we’ve laid out a sample skincare routine for someone in their 40s, with the focus being anti-aging efforts, sun protection and skin balancing.

Cleanser: Cleansing your skin of all the makeup, dirt and excess oil that accumulates during the day is vital in keeping your skin healthy and looking its best. Even if you don’t have acne-prone skin, clogged and congested pores can make your skin look dull and textured, and over time can lead to increased wrinkles and fine lines. It’s important to always take your makeup off and wash your face with a powerful cleanser like the Jan Marini C Esta Cleansing Gel. Suitable for all skin types, this cleanser contains Vitamin C and dimethicone to hydrate the skin while also providing anti-aging and skin-brightening benefits.

Treatment/Serum: Serums are a great way to provide the skin with heavy concentrations of active ingredients for fast absorption. When it comes to anti-aging, using serums with complementary ingredients is an effective way to improve the appearance of the skin and prevent future aging. Combining two serums, like the SkinMedica Retinol Complex and the Defenage 8-in-1 Bio Serum provides a total all-encompassing treatment for the skin. SkinMedica’s Retinol Complex contains 1% retinol to improve skin tone and texture and improve the appearance of fine lines. The Defenage serum contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, tripeptides and Arabidopsis thaliana extract to rejuvenate the skin and promote radiance, hydration and overall younger-looking skin.

Moisturizer: It’s important to replenish moisture to your skin after cleansing to keep the skin hydrated and smooth. Even if you suffer from oily skin, or the weather outside is hot, your skin still needs some extra help keeping hydrated. A moisturizer like the Defenage 24/7 Barrier Balance Cream is lightweight but hydrating and contains ingredients to help with anti-aging efforts. It has niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and peptides to visibly correct signs of aging while restoring and balancing the skin’s natural barrier.

Eye Cream: The skin around your eyes is some of the most sensitive, and can also be one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Sometimes this area needs a little extra TLC, as your other face products may cause irritation in this area. Using an eye treatment like the iS Clinical Youth Eye Complex helps to target dark circles, puffiness and fine lines in this area with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, copper tripeptide growth factors and other antioxidants.

Mask: If you’re ever feeling like doing something a little extra during the week, adding in a mask or peel can give your skin some extra love and super-target any concerns. The DCL G20 Radiance Peel consists of pre-moistened pads with 20% glycolic acid for high-strength chemical exfoliation for the skin. These pads smooth away dry, dead skin cells and help to increase the rate of cell turnover to keep the skin looking smooth and supple.

Sunscreen: Last but not least, the most important step of any skincare routine-sunscreen! Sunscreen not only protects you from a painful sunburn, it protects the skin from long-term damage the sun can cause, including dark spots and wrinkles. The Elta MD UV Daily sunscreen has SPF 40 to protect you from harsh rays and hyaluronic acid to moisturize the skin and improve fine lines, leaving the skin looking young and radiant.

Like we’ve said before, this is a sample routine, and not every product will work for every person. If you’re looking for additional advice on your skincare routine, please reach out to us on DermWarehouse.com!
